Greetings,

The MSU Alumni Club of West Michigan serves the alumni and friends of Michigan State University in Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, and Barry counties while supporting the university with pride. Our local chapter is one of the top fund raising alumni groups in the world for Michigan State and we plan to continue this tradition in the future.

Our excitement is growing as we anticipate even more involvement with our alma mater. The opening of the MSU Medical School in Grand Rapids will serve as a connection between one of the fastest advancing areas of growth in our area and our alumni community here in West Michigan. As technological advances increase in medicine and health care research, Spartans will be leading the way from right here in our hometown.

If you are looking to connect even more with MSU, I encourage you to come to some of our events and get involved. Recently, we hosted the 11th Annual Steve Smith Charity Challenge at Egypt Valley Country Club and were able to raise over $100,000 for our charitable partners including:

  • Grand Rapids Public Schools Student Advancement Foundation
  • Steve Smith's Michigan State University Scholarship Fund, and,
  • Old College Field Project at MSU.

MSU Basketball's all-time leading scorer, Shawn Respert and MSU's head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo joined us to make this year's event an outstanding day to be a Spartan.

Our club hosts other local events including the Crying Towel Football Bust (co-hosted with Ohio State and Notre Dame), a picnic for incoming freshmen students from West Michigan, MSU Means Business, a business mixer called Meet & Greet for local alumni, and the Outstanding Junior Award program which provides scholarships to local students who attend MSU. There are also many other things we do to promote MSU in our community, and we would appreciate your participation.
