EAST LANSING, Mich. – Joseph H. Hotchkiss, director of the Michigan State University School of Packaging in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) and director of the Center for Packaging Innovation and Sustainability, will speak at the MSU Bioeconomy Institute in Holland, Mich., on Wed., Mar. 10 at 4:00 pm. The talk, entitled “Applications of bioactive polymer surfaces for food contact materials,” is part of the MSU Bioeconomy Institute’s 2010 speaker series, Experts Exchange: Opportunities in Bio‐Innovation. Hotchkiss has been a consultant to a wide variety of food products, packaging and consumer goods corporations as well as the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. His research focuses on improving food quality, shelf life, and safety by developing new technologies, with emphasis on packaging and related polymerbased sciences, and coupling these technologies to recent advances in biology.
